FLASHINGS is the oldest public high school newspaper in Nassau County and has operated for 30 years as a free press, serving as a model for student newspapers around the country. FLASHINGS' Statement of Intent, the agreement made between the Board of Education and the editors in 1969 that guarantees its freedom, was rejected by the Principal early this school year after 30 years of responsible journalism under its procedures.  Despite the availability of a qualified applicant, no advisor has yet to be appointed and thus FLASHINGS has not published a single issue.  More importantly, the school board is considering voting in a proposal made by Dr. Ciaglia which will eliminate FLASHINGS status as a free forum for FHS students.
